I am a lifelong fan of the vampire legend and its many tropes. It began with my not-to-be-missed daily viewing of Dark Shadows, then continued into Salem’s Lot, Interview with the Vampire, The Lost Boys, What We Do in the Shadows, True Blood, and—of course—Bram Stoker’s classic, Dracula. But I also enjoy the fun and clever way vampire lore has been used to entertain and educate children, such as with Hotel Transylvania and Vampirina Ballerina.
Likewise, I’m a conservationist at heart—in particular, I’m concerned about our planet’s vanishing diversity of animal species, and how human behavior has negatively impacted their survival in a world that’s changing without their consent.
Dracula’s Vampire Kitty was created from my desire to celebrate the vampire legend and to draw attention to a relatively unknown cat species, which just-so-happens to share many of Dracula’s characteristics.
My hope is that with the success of this book, a portion of the proceeds can be donated to animal conservation.
